Vernon Herron has more than 40 years of experience in public safety strategies. He began his career as a support staff employee for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. After leaving the Bureau, he joined the Maryland Department of State Police, where he served with distinction and honor, earning the highest award, “The Governor’s Citation of Valor.”
Mr. Herron progressed through the ranks of the Maryland Department of State Police and retired at the rank of Major. Immediately following his stellar career with the Department, he was appointed as the first Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Public Safety and Homeland Security in Prince George’s County, Maryland. After developing successful crime-reduction strategies in Prince George’s County, Mr. Herron developed and taught crisis-coordinating strategies to public safety chiefs and executives in Amman, Jordan, Republic of Türkiye, Cyprus, Ecuador, and Tanzania, Africa.
After a successful career as a worldwide crisis management consultant, he was appointed as the Baltimore City Police Department’s first Director of Officer Safety and Wellness, while also serving as the Department’s Early Intervention Director. Mr. Herron developed a nationally recognized Officer Safety and Wellness program and has lectured nationally and internationally on how to develop a robust program for organizations, who desire to build workforce resilience, which ultimately leads to a healthier and more productive workforce, and at the same time, improve morale.
